Revisión taxonómica de Mantodea (Arthropoda:Insecta) en el Mioceno de México

Este trabajo trata de una revisión taxonómica del registro fósil del orden Mantodea Latreille, 1802 (Insecta: Dictyoptera) en el Mioceno de México. El material estudiado se compone de inclusiones de ámbar provenientes de los depósitos de Simojovel y Estrella de Belén en Chiapas, México. El ámbar de Chiapas tiene una edad geológica estimada de 23 millones de años. De acuerdo con los resultados, se presenta un catálogo anotado que comprende 27 nuevos registros fósiles incluidos en las familias Amelidae Westwood, 1889, Thespidae Saussure, 1869, Mantidae Latreille, 1802, Coptopterygidae Giglio-Tos, 1915, y Gonypetidae Westwood, 1889, y los géneros Litaneutria Saussure, 1869, Stagmomantis Saussure, 1869, Pseudomiopteryx Saussure, 1870. Este catálogo taxonómico incluye la primera especie fósil descrita para México Litaneutria pilosuspedes sp. nov. Terriquez-Beltrán, Varela-Hernández & Riquelme, 2022. La composición taxonómica de Mantodea en el registro fósil del Mioceno de México amplía nuestro conocimiento sobre la diversidad del grupo en la parte más sureña de América del Norte, puesto que aquí en México se encuentran los primeros registros fósiles de las familias Amelidae, Thespidae, Mantidae, Coptopterygidae, y Gonypetidae, así como los géneros Litaneutria, Stagmomantis, y Pseudomiopteryx. Complementariamente, se presenta una lista anotada actualizada del registro fósil de Mantodea a nivel mundial, el cual compila 51 registros en 12 familias, 26 géneros, y 37 especies. Las familias documentadas aquí son: Ambermantidae Grimaldi, 2003, Amorphoscelidae Stal, 1877, Baissomantidae Gratshev & Zherikhin, 1993, Chaeteessidae Handlirsch, 1926, Cretomantidae Gratshev & Zherikhin, 1993, Jantarimantidae Vrsansky, 2002, Liturgusidae Beier, 1968, Mantidae Latreille, 1802, Mantoididae Giglio-Tos, 1927, Santanmantidae Grimaldi, 2003, Tarachodidae Beier, 1968, y Amelidae Westwood, 1889. This work deals with a taxonomic review of the fossil record of the order Mantodea Latreille, 1802 (Insecta: Dictyoptera) in the Miocene of Mexico. The material studied includes amber inclusions from the Simojovel and Estrella de Belén deposits in Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas amber has an estimated geological age of 23 million years. A catalog is presented that includes 27 new fossil records in the families Amelidae Westwood, 1889, Thespidae Saussure, 1869, Mantidae Latreille, 1802, Coptopterygidae Giglio-Tos, 1915, and Gonypetidae Westwood, 1889, and the genera Litaneutria Saussure, 1869, Stagmomantis Saussure, 1869, and Pseudomiopteryx Saussure, 1870. This taxonomic catalog includes the first description of a fossil species for Mexico Litaneutria pilosuspedes sp. nov. Terríquez-Beltrán, Varela-Hernández & Riquelme, 2022. The taxonomic composition of Mantodea in the fossil record of the Miocene of Mexico expands our knowledge about the diversity of the group worldwide, given that the first fossil records of the families Amelidae, Mantidae, Coptopterygidae, Gonypetidae, and Thespidae are found here; as well as the genera Litaneutria, Stagmomantis, and Pseudomyopteryx. An annotated list updated of the Mantodea fossil record worldwide is also presented, compiling 51 records in 12 families, 26 genera, and 37 species.
